August 28th Reading Assignment

Daily Reading Question

Alma 57:21; Helaman's warriors "did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness." What do you think this means? How was this obedience an expression of faith?

Obedience-Full Obedience

  1. Faith is the first principle of the gospel and is vital for faithful obedience. When my obedience is motivated by faith in God and His Son and a knowledge that "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world, even layeth down his own life that he may draw all men into him."(2 Ne26:24, obedience becomes a joy instead of a burden as I recognize that the Lords commandments are born out of love for me and are designed to draw me closer to Him.

  2. I was reminded tonight of the importance to remember to praise, give thanks, and recognize God in delivering us out of our own personal battles...and to be generous and sincere in our recognition. Helaman mentions 4 different times in this reading his recognition of God's hand in their deliverance....vs. 35 "And behold, we are again delivered out of the hands of our enemies. And blessed is the name of our God; for behold, it is he that has delivered us; yea, that has done this great thing for us." Helaman also teaches us that it is through our "exact" obedience to Heavenly Fathers' commandments and our faith in Him that leads to the deliverance we are seeking.
