The church has made a stand to defend the family and preserve traditional marriage, the heat that arisen from this issue alone is very telling. This has been very unpopular. So is defending the Prophet Joseph and believing in a restoration. So is paying tithing, and being modest in our moral standards including the Word of Wisdom. Believing in modern day revelation is unpopular.
I don't think it's coincidence these are temple worthiness standards.
