Why do you think it is important to receive strength from God to stand against wickedness rather than having wicked influences removed completely from our lives?
If all wickedness was removed from us, there would be no opposition. Our free agency would be taken away. We have to have opposition in all things in order to truly have a choice. Otherwise we'd always pick the good because it would be so easy, not necessarily because we want to.
I love what Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught: “By choosing to be in His kingdom, we separate—not isolate—ourselves from the world. Our dress will be modest, our thoughts pure, our language clean.”
I imagine the terror of the Nephites and desperation that drove them to pray as they probably never had and then the gratitude for his saving blessings. I'm certain they could never forget that. Without the trials and wickedness and desperation of this world would we pray like that? I can safely say I wouldn't. Without my trials and struggles I'm a forgetful and ungrateful daughter.
