May 6th Reading Assignment
Daily Reading Question

Why is it helpful to know that the Lord doesn’t always immediately remove our burdens or take away our challenges? When have you felt that the Lord has given you strength to endure a trial or carry a burden?

Daily Talk

The Sustaining Power of Faith in Times of Uncertainty and Testing

  1. That was one of the best talks I've read in a long time!
About the time I was pregnant with my seventh child, my husband began to feel that he should quit his job and go to graduate school. We picked up and moved six weeks after my youngest was born. We had no idea how we were going to make it work. It felt like we were stepping off a dark cliff. Yet, we knew it was God's will for our life. It ended up being the best three years of our lives. Yes, there were burdens, but the blessings were more. We were shaped by that experience of doing the Lord's will.

  2. I have read verses 12-15 so many times these past two years. I love the promises made in these verses. I love that God knows the thoughts of our hearts and can ease our burdens so that we truly don't feel their weight. I love that even in the midst of really hard circumstances we can turn to God and he can bring peace and happiness into our hearts and homes. This is a miracle to me. I am thankful that even though life doesn't always turn out the way we planned (or maybe ever turn out the way we plan:) it can still be beautiful and so good as we turn our heats to him and allow him to bear us up!

  3. Great talk today. I especially liked how Elder Scott explained why we don't always get what we desire from Heavenly Father: "God will not always reward you immediately according to your desires. Rather, God will respond with what in His eternal plan is best for you. He loves you to a depth and completeness you cannot conceive of in your mortal state."

He also goes on to explain that we don't fully understand God's plan for us. Only He does. This requires faith on our part, to trust that a loving Heavenly Father is watching out for us, and as we have faith in Him, he will provide a way back to Him.

  4. Because of some of the trials and challenges of life, I too, have become a witness that the Lord does visit His people in their afflictions. In verse 17 the phrase "and I will go with thee" caught my attention. The Savior helps us do the hard things we've been asked to do. Accessing and using the enabling power of the atonement is what sustains me and gives me faith to keep moving forward. I appreciated the reminder that our our covenants give us power unto deliverance and faith precedes miracles.
