  1. King Benjamin gets it. He was one of the greatest leaders in the Book of Mormon. How did he do it? He followed the Savior's example when He taught his apostles to be like a child.

The world teaches that to be a leader you have to be assertive, dominating, and strong. While there is a time and place for those attributes, the Savior teaches us the way to lead is through service and humility. He encourages us to be submissive, meek, humble, patient, and full of love (Mosiah 3:19).

King Benjamin sets a great example for us on how to lead this way – through service and humility. When he asks, "Are we not all beggars?” he displays great humility, and shows on whom he depends.

This helps me in my life with my different roles, but none more so, than as a husband and father. I am thankful for King Benjamin’s example of leading with humility and service.

  2. As I read this morning, I began to substitute the word "love" each time the word "substance" was used. This was eye-opening to me. I realized that I cannot withhold my love from anyone. God gives me all of His love, all of the time. And like Maury said, King Benjamin was a great example of that - loving those he served as Christ loves.
