February 25th Reading Assignment
Daily Reading Question

Just as Isaiah trusted in God, when have you turned to God for strength when you were initially tempted to turn to other sources? How did God help you? What did you learn from the experience?

  1. These talks went great with the scriptures today. The first thing that stood out to me was verse 6, "forasmuch as the people refuseth the waters of Shiloah"... I think of "peace like a river" "running to the fountain of all righteousness". I think that the waters of Shiloah actually ran from the temple. I need to not reject the peace that comes from relying on Christ and the temple. I need to trust God always and not the wisdom of the world. I want the Lord to be my sanctuary! Thank you Isaiah.:-)

  2. God loves us, He knows us perfectly and He is anxious to help us. Just like we learned from a previous reading that His grace is sufficient for us every day through every trial. However, He can't force His peace on us we have to put in the work to turn to Him, to learn of Him and to trust Him. This brings growth which brings confidence in Him, which brings peace. He loves us of that i am sure.

  3. Love Elder Holland's talk that you linked today. He quotes one of my favorite scriptures in Alma, "Look to God, and live." It's such simple instruction yet we forget repeatedly. When we look to God, sometimes the blessings are obvious and immediate, sometimes they are hard to recognize.

Early in my career I received one of these "obvious and immediate" blessings. I had two job offers to work as an intern for two different aerospace companies. On paper, the one offer seemed like a better fit: more money, better hours, etc. But through much thought and prayer, I knew I should go with the other job.

I knew this because as I presented the Lord with my decision through prayer, I was blessed with an overwhelming feeling of peace, happiness, and excitement. So I took the lower-paying job which has turned into a career. I've been happily employed at the same place for 14 years. BTW, I found out the other higher paying position was cut after 3 months.

These are things I did not or could not have known at the time. But like mentioned above, God loves us, knows all, and is anxious to help us!

  4. I learned today that the name Immanuel means “God is with us”. God and the Savior are where we find true help, real hope, and lasting strength. We must seek the Lord and not peeping wizards (like it says in the Ch, 18 heading). I find that with parenting I have a tendency to look to “parenting experts”, other mothers, books, the internet, etc. for help and guidance--perhaps it is because I have mistakenly believed, like Laman and Lemuel, that the “Lord doesn’t make these things known to me,” so I turn to these other things for help. I have tried learning from these sources and essentially the arm of flesh and it has yielded no fruit. Recently, I have felt the Savior inviting me to learn of Him rather than these other sources. I recognize that when I am learning through the Spirit what the Savior and Heavenly Father would have me do, it is fruitful and fulfilling and I feel at peace. Last week I took of load of parenting books to the DI because I believe, like Nephi, that “the Lord is able to make them known unto me.”
I like this scripture that reminds us to seek the Lord: Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
