February 3rd Reading Assignment

February 3rd Reading Assignment
Daily Reading Question
In our day, God asks that all Church members assist in gathering “his children from the four quarters of the earth”
How do you think those who are gathered (converts) will feel about those who have gathered them (those who have shared the gospel with them)?
What can you do to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others?
Please share what you learned from these verses.

  1. Sharing the gospel with others is as easy as just being a sincere friend. Participating in this work at any level is challenging, but also very rewarding. I like how Nephi says the Lord will "make bare his arm. . ." I'm not perfectly sure what this means, but it sounds like the Lord will roll up his sleeve and do a great work that will have a worldwide effect. It sounds like a huge job, but the best place to start is with our children and serving where we live.

    1. Thanks Mark. I loved your last part of starting with our children and serving where we live. I think that is great advice.

  2. These verses are a beautiful reassurance that we know how this story ends! We know that righteousness wins! I’ve never noticed before that these verses specifically mention that the kingdom of the devil is established among those in the flesh (vs. 22). This is where Satan focuses all of his efforts, whereas God’s work is on both sides of the veil. Of course with our limited view of only His work here we can at times feel like Satan is succeeding or even winning this battle, but we have to remember that the work of God is alive and well! We get to be a part of it and are told that we have no need to fear. These verses are like a halftime pep talk - keep going, you’re gonna win this thing! I loved them and especially his plain and simple final words, “Wherefore, if ye shall be obedient to the commandments, and endure to the end, ye shall be saved at the last day. And thus it is. Amen.”

  3. What stood out to me in these verses is that it was mentioned three times that the righteous need not fear (Verses 17, 19, and 22). Sometimes when I look around and see all of the evil in this world I feel so fearful. I worry about raising my children in this world but I need to replace my fear with faith. I need to focus on the teachings of the gospel and help my children develop their own testimonies. I do find comfort in remembering the righteous need not fear. I just need to do my part.

  4. I feel so much compassion for people struggling with their testimonies and struggling with overcoming the world and sin. We've all been there at one point or another or to some degree or another. These verses while firm are also hopeful. God knows our hearts, our struggles, our success... He will get us through them all and in the end those whose hearts are turned towards God will triumph. It really comes down to consistently aligning ourselves with God and trusting in Him that He can and will do everything He says. I like the analogy of it being a pep talk... we all need those!

  5. I love the promise found in verse 26: "And because of the righteousness of His people, Satan hath no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he hath no power over the hearts of the people for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth." I have heard it said before that we can usher in the millennium into our homes now as we dwell in righteousness and have a Christ centered home. If we do this we have the promise that Satan will have no power over our hearts and homes.
