O Be Wise

  1. V5 jumped out at me today, specifically the word 'cleave'. Jacob encourages us to, "cleave unto God as he cleaveth
unto you." Also, in DC 42:22, this same word shows up:

22 Thou shalt love thy wife with
all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto
    her and none else.

I always thought cleave meant cling, hang onto, or be close too. The topical guide says = join, think of it as 'to be one with'.

That adds a lot of power to both verses. Our Heavenly Father wants us to join, or become one with Him, and with our spouses. This reminds me of Elder Bednar's marriage triangle.

He said to imagine Christ at the apex of a triangle with the husband and wife at the two base corners of the triangle. As we grow closer to the Savior, we also grow closer to each other until we have become one.

  2. I love coming to know God as He has revealed His nature to us in the scriptures (John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent…) In these passages we learn that…..He is merciful to us, He remembers us, He stretches forth His hands all the day long, He invites us to cleave Him as He cleaves to us, His arm of mercy is extended towards us. To know Him is to love Him.
