  1. The seminary manual helped me understand verse 4 better. It said, “A prophecy consists of divinely inspired words or writings, which a person receives through revelation from the Holy Ghost. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev. 19:10). A prophecy may pertain to the past, present, or future. When a person prophesies, he speaks or writes that which God wants him to know, for his own good or the good of others. Individuals may receive prophecy or revelation for their own lives” (Guide to the Scriptures, “Prophecy, Prophesy,” scriptures.lds.org).
Help students see that their understanding of Isaiah’s words will increase as they (1) seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost and (2) have a testimony of Jesus Christ and a desire to learn of Him. When they approach Isaiah’s words in this way, always looking for ways his prophecies testify of the Savior, they will be able to learn what God wants them to know, for their own good or for the good of others."

  2. I am so grateful for revelation. Revelation from a living Prophet and apostles and my own ability to seek and receive personal revelation. It is something I am learning more and more about and learning how incredibly dependent upon it I am. I noticed in the second talk how sacrifice and humility are so closely linked to receiving revelation. So grateful we have a loving Heavenly Father who still speaks to us today collectively and individually!

  3. Elder Bednar's discourse on the Spirit of Revelation is deeply insightful. I have had people scoff at me for the idea of receiving personal revelation, yet it's real. It's not something you can do for someone else, I think this is why it so perfectly hidden from the skeptic who refuses to believe in "Faith." The person who never kneels privately in sincere prayer to seek truth - even if that truth goes against everything they were taught - will never find it.

  4. I was glad to read that Nephi's people also thought Isaiah's words were hard to understand. I respect them, and hope to someday understand them better. I do marvel at the imagery, blunt force, and power Isaiah speaks with, but I'm not going to pretend I understand it all. I'll most likely never be a student of Jewish custom and culture.
