  1. I see God's hand in the lives of my family quite frequently. When I do, I record all His "tender mercies" in my Gratitude Journal. Then when I am feeling lost or forgotten, I read those entries and once again am reminded of God's love for me. I feel so blessed to be reminded of the sweet powerful witness I was given of those many "tender mercies".

  2. I think one of the reasons that we may sometimes feel that The Lord has forgotten us is because we fail to record those times, in one way or another, when he has shown great blessings and tender mercies to us. My patriarchal blessings reminds me of the importance of keeping a journal and recording those special spiritual experiences that The Lord has blessed me with. This has been a great strength and comfort in my life! It seems like at times when I am tempted to forget he leads me to my journal where I am reminded of my powerful testimony and the overwhelming love he has for me and my family. I know that recording the significant spiritual experiences in our lives will help us to "always remember him" and know that he truly has graven us on the palms of his hands!

  3. Don't get discouraged as L&L when we don't understand things, i.e. all of the Isaiah chapters. I found a helpful talk from Elder McConkie. Also, read through the institute and sunday school manuals on the Book of Mormon for help. There are a lot of tools in there to get some extra help and understanding.

I only say this because I started to read this, and I am pretty sure the first time I read it through today, I didn't even pay attention or try to understand it!

  4. I was thinking again about Laman and Lemuel..they question Nephi's ability to build a ship. The have forgotten by whose hand they have been brought this far and who it is that commanded Nephi to build the ship...God gives a reminder by way of Nephi's powerful sermon declaring God's power that concludes with a bit of an exclamation point by way of a shock that did not wither them, but did shake them to the core nonetheless. The first words of chapter 18, following this shocking experience, are "and it came to pass that they did worship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious workmanship." Instead of just Nephi going forth--the scriptures say "they did go forth with me." Perhaps recognizing the enormous task at hand and perhaps with the feeling of being shocked still fresh in their mind, Laman and Lemuel worshipped the Lord and went forth with Nephi. Then--not even 10 verses later--we read this about their ocean journey "they began to make themselves merry...yea, even that they did forget by what power they had been brought thither." Perhaps it was the smooth water, the plentiful food, and the nice, seaworthy ship that cause them to forget so soon. Maybe they thought they had "arrived" and it would be smooth sailing from here on out. I know that the Lord has never forgotten me, but rather I have forgotten Him--either from enjoying a relatively smooth ride or in the midst of the storm, looking to other sources for help.
I believe the Lord when he says in 1 Nephi 21:15 Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel.16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

    1. I agree. It is always us who forgets The Lord not the other way around, although when we feel distanced from Him we, for some reason, think he has abandoned us. Good thoughts. :)

  5. I love verses 15 and 16 "...Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee...Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me."

We all have those personal struggles and during our suffering we wonder if anyone understands or cares. I have had countless experiences where I have felt those divine tentacles reaching down from heaven and connecting with me. This weekend was Stake Conference. I hoped/prayed that a certain topic would be discussed during our meetings. When a speaker preceded to speak on the very topic I had prayed for, I knew my Heavenly Father knew me and cared enough to answer my prayers in this particular way. I felt remembered! I love the metaphor of a wall used by Isaiah in verse 16. A wall symbolizes, to me, a road block...an ending...an obstacle. The Savior sees and understands our obstacles and challenges, and can not forget or forsake us because of His sacrifice for us.

    2. Thanks for you thoughts on what a wall symbolizes--a road block, ending or obstacle. That helps me understand the scripture better.
