Daily Reading Question

Why was it important that Nephi should include the prophecy of the coming and time of Christ?

  1. All prophets testify of the coming of Christ. He is the One in whom Nephi trusted. I once started reading the Book of Mormon looking for prophecies of Christ. They are on every page I think it important there was a time given so their faith could.be.supported. Our.Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally and because he does, he understands our limitations of the flesh, In fact we are taught he was mortal himself. He knew they needed a time frame so they could not say 'you keep saying this is goof to happen and yet it never does.

  3. It is one of the most important roles of a prophet to testify of Christ. His explanation here of the future of Jerusalem, the Babylonian captivity etc. are powerful prophecies about why they needed to leave Jerusalem. They give the bigger picture of the future of the people who are choosing wickedness in Jerusalem. Then the prophecies of the coming of the Savior have that context and backdrop so that Lehi and his family can understand even more of why they are doing what they are doing in a broad sense. The are being obedient, going into the wilderness and seeking the Promised Land, and clinging to the Rod of Iron because of Christ. Because He is real and is coming and they are striving to follow Him.

  4. What stood out to me most today was Elder Hales words that if we have not heard God recently that we need to read the scriptures differently. "Throughout all the wars of the past century and the conflicts that rage today, Latter-day Saints survive because they hear His voice through the scriptures."

I need to not just read the scriptures, but to hear the Lord's voice each time I read!

  5. It's important for us and for Lehi's people to know the future of the world and that we may be safe and comforted during unknown times because of Christ's sacrifices. Imagine how it must have felt to know that what you were doing was for Christ and his people, that must have been so comforting and confirming of their choice to leave Jerusalem.

  6. I think it's a gift from a loving heavenly father to have prophets prophecy and then for God to bring them to fruition before our eyes, it reaffirms our faith and trust that God is able to do all things He says. I love that when I'm going through hard times i can look back on these propheceys and be reminded that i can trust God perfectly.

  7. These passages of scripture show us how much the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. Prophets roles throughout time show us HOW to draw closer to our Savior and invite us to follow Him. I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon and that it testifies of the Savior. I love 9:6 about how Heavenly Father knows all things from the beginning to the end. Whether they be on a big scale (116 pages that would be lost from the Book of Mormon) or on a personal level on a small scale--which is big for me. I am grateful to know that Heavenly Father knows my beginning to my end and wants to lead me to accomplish HIS work which should also be MY work. Having the knowledge that God knows what is best for me has sustained me through past and current trials. I am grateful to know that God knows all and will help us find our way--the best way as we navigate through mortality.

  8. I love chapter 9:6 "the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning.." I'm grateful He has the bigger picture and knows what is best for us and that it is His desire that we accomplish His works and it is my desire to please Him and become more like Him.

  9. Nephi's faith is subtly shown again in Chap9 V5 when he says, "5 Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me to make these plates for a wise purpose in him, which purpose I know not."

If you think about the tedious and time-consuming task of keeping his record on the plates, and the hundreds, maybe thousands of hours he spent doing this. He did this with faith and obedience that since the Lord commanded him to do it, he was going to do it, even if he didn't understand why. What a great example for us! We don't have to understand 'the why' of every doctrine or commandment in the gospel. We just need to have faith like Nephi, that a loving Heavenly Father is watching out for us.
